The history of the Purcellville Skate Project.
2011
January
Wrote letter to Rep. Frank Wolf's office lobbying for support to use the Hirst Rd. land as a skate park. It was accompanied by signatures from town council members, and from the Parks and Rec Committee.
Received letter from Frank Wolf's office. It stated that his office contacted VDOT in Richmond inquiring about the Hirst Rd. land for skate park use.
February
Town reviews potential land use, and other issues, relating to a skate park. We learned that the town also lobbied VDOT directly. Full support from the town was now evident.
March
We received a copy of a letter from the town written to VDOT. It asked them for consideration of use for the Hirst Rd. property.
April
Council Tom suggests that the town propose an MOU regarding lease agreement with VDOT. We learned that VDOT wants no part of oversight or ongoing responsibility, should they agree.
May
VDOT request that the town write an MOU agreement for leasing the land.
June
We were notified that VDOT agreed to an MOU document stating that the town, and our group, can use the Hirst Rd. land for a skate park. We received the document from the town on June 10.
Our group participated at the Rock the Field event in town. We sold pizza and drinks as a means to create awareness for our cause, and funds.
2010
November – receivied 501c3 non-profit status as an organization.
December – Regional VDOT turned down our request for use of the Hirst Rd. property. The answer was a simple "No.". The town suggest that we lobby local and state official to attempt to gain support for use of the land.
